The tdi has no starter, it's a common rail engine. Other than that if the crash was harsh and it has affected the engine bay, have a mechanic look at it. How did it do in terms of protection by the way?

 

If your TDI has no starter motor it's obviously fallen off!. ;-)

My advise would be check if there's an inhibitor switch that needs resetting or it could be due to the airbags deploying as I believe some manufacturers have an inhibitor built into the srs system to prevent the car restarting after the airbags are deployed. Have you renewed the airbags & control unit (if appropriate) yet?.

I thought diesels start with direct injection method, and they don't have a starter like petrol ones..am I wrong?? :?

 

Yes, you're wrong.

By the way, the petrol engines are direct injection too.

To the OP - it could be that the starter motor is jammed or otherwise broken. Or it could be something else - not a lot to go on!

 

I am wrong indeed, thought it was starter that is not it a diesel but in the end it was the spark plugs! Sorry for that

 

Dont know if you've sorted this by now, but in the boot on the battery, positive terminal, there's a little pyrotechnic in there that cuts off supply to the starter motor, so you'll hear a click when you try to start it.

You can't miss it, it's on the positive terminal. You need to either replace or bypass it, a bridge will work fine.

Didn't mean to, I too was wondering why someone should be asking, and that was my best guess.

 

Hi did you manage to get this sorted? I've just bought an Audi S1 that was involved in a crash. No Airbag deployed. And it's doing the same thing. On the push start button. The starter makes 1 click sound and nothing after that. I've replaced the small isolator switch on positive battery terminal. But its still the same. Any help appreciated
