HOW TO - Enable Video In Motion (VIM)

My official VCDS cable just arrived today.

Since we have four Audis in the family - 3 A2s (AMAZING cars) plus my A1 (also AMAZING) it was worth the £264.

But now I am even happier, it took me 5 minutes to disable the Video In Motion (I have a cowl that I made that prevents me from seeing the screen, but my wife can watch the end of Coronation square farm (or whatever it is!))

I also managed to get the auto dipping mirror on reverse to work (2 minutes).

I plan to play a bit more (already have the "Swoosh" done using my "other cable").

But these cables are fantastic.

Cheers Steve!

Just ordered a genuine cable from Gendan.
They deliver next working day if you ordered it early enough you will have it tomorrow or certainly by the weekend.
If you are used to the "other" cable you may find a difference, especially as you can load the latest release of the software andf get free support from them if you need it.
(I will have to watch out, I am starting to sound like a salesman for Ross !!!!!!!)

Yes, it will be here tomorrow Steve.

Looking forward to putting the VCDS mods on the new A1.

I will try the VIM and see if the serial number is there on a non Tech Pack A1.

Fingers crossed, it COULD be that the latest version of the software is the reason why it seems to work when I try it.

Steve

You need to send some scans of your cars software to Ross Tech because with your extras on your car they will be able label more of the controllers & more goodies will become available in their next software release! :)

If you dont know how to do it here is a video for you

I will do the same too.
Done,

I also asked them if they knew why I could see my serial number but others can't.

I doubt if they would know, but no harm in asking.

As far as i know, no one knows how to activate it yet... Maybe because the VCDS is not yet fully labeled for the A1?

Or we need access to the security area in VCDS. Maybe you can see if you can access the security area on your cable Steve?
I will have a look this weekend and see what I can find. I will be watching my team beat Chelsea on Saturday on TV but i can watch it in the car while I search through the screens.

I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks for your help with this guys!

Did you spot anything in the menus?

We may have some news very soon, fingers crossed.
Yes and Ross-tech are being very helpful.
They have taken maps of the control modules and are trying to find out why some people can see their serial numbers but others can't.

Watch this space !!!

Mojito and I are working together !!!!!

If it is at all possible we will find a way.

Steve,
I have PMd you the Level 2 Debug... Feel free to send to Ross-Tech.

No serial that i could see for VIM :(

It maybe a good idea if i scan every A1 possible and send the report to Ross-Tech in the future so that we can get more things labelled up and a few more VCDS mods available.

We've got a cable as well & if you others to submit scan, give me a shout.
Hi,

Got your scan and sent it to Ross-Tech, thanks.

All info will help and they seem keen to resolve this one for us.

Cheers

Hi,

Can I ask anyone who takes their MMI unit out for any purpose, to post a picture of the sticker that is supposed to show the serial number. This is usually on the top of the unit, visible even if you just slide it out a little, the serial number should be just under the bar code.

I am pretty sure that all MMIs should have their serial number visible somewhere on the unit, I can see no reason why Audi would hide it (or even the dealers would not be able to find the serial number!!))

So anyone who removes the MMI could help a lot !!!

There are many people who would like to disable VIM as I have done.

I am also aware that it is illegal to drive and watch TV (not to mention totally insane if you do) but there are valid reasons for wanting to disable the VIM.

this is what the sticker should look like, you can just see the serial number under the bar code.

Hope this helps

Birchal:

Does the serial number of your MMI unit matches with the serial number that you got with VCDS when enabling VIM?

Hi,

I have not removed my MMI, I didn't want to do that unnecessarily. I found the picture on a web site, it is not from my unit.

But If it will help I will try to do it later this week (busy for a couple of days / nights, sorry).

But the number on the sticker is meant to match the serial number on the VCDS, so I am pretty sure it will match.

Even if theres a barcode and no S/N is there an App that can scan the barcode and decipher the S/N?

Could be an idea? Probably a stupid one, haha

not stupid at all!!

Most iphone apps that read bar codes (such as the ones that find the best prices for items by bar code, or the eBay app has it even)

I am pretty sure that the eBay app will try to find an item on eBay (LOL and won't find one of course) but it should show the number that the bar code relates to anyway?

Worth a try if you have an iphone?

There are NO valid reasons for a television screen to be within the view of a driver whilst he/she is driving.

SatNav App on MMI screen is valid!

No different to a SatNav stuck on the windscreen blocking your view!
