HOW TO - Enable Video In Motion (VIM)

My official VCDS cable just arrived today.

Since we have four Audis in the family - 3 A2s (AMAZING cars) plus my A1 (also AMAZING) it was worth the £264.

But now I am even happier, it took me 5 minutes to disable the Video In Motion (I have a cowl that I made that prevents me from seeing the screen, but my wife can watch the end of Coronation square farm (or whatever it is!))

I also managed to get the auto dipping mirror on reverse to work (2 minutes).

I plan to play a bit more (already have the "Swoosh" done using my "other cable").

But these cables are fantastic.

Steve, how did you turn off VIM?
I was shocked !!! I had heard that it was not really possible, but I just googled and found

http://trick77.com/tools/mmi3g_vimcode.php

The instructions worked perfectly and are so easy.

Try it and you will be surprised too, I thought it was near on impossible!!!

The only problem I had was how to reset the MMI, on the A1 it is different to the instructions, but that was easy to find..

Where did you find the Serial number?

P.S
I am going to buy a genuine cable this week.

It is on the VCDS screen when you follow the instructions, you just copy that in to the code generator on that site and it gives you the right code to use.

Simples!!!

The "not genuine" cables are always likely to be second best, and I did not like all of the messing with the dates and preventing updates. but £264 is a lot of money for many people, so they are very tempting.

So I am happy now and I know that if I have any problems with the software or cable I can get free support!!!

I even had trouble setting the reversing mirror option with the "other" cable.

Have fun!!!

Will the dipping left mirror
While reversing work with standard mirrors?
Not sure, I have heated folding mirrors on mine.

But I do not have electric memory seats and some people seem to think that you need them for this to work.

Hi,

I may do in the future but I want to make sure that I know the system well enough to make sure that I do not damage anyone's car!!!!

I didn't buy the cable to make a profit and so I had not planned on using it on other people's cars, but I will see how I get on, if I become confident enough in the software I may do, but I don't want to take customers away from Mojito or anyone else.

Mojito's option of hiring out the cable is a good one and would suit people in the more remote areas (well remote from other cable owners that is)

Hey Steve,
It would be good if we had VCDS services in different locations... So its fine with me mate.

I have posted a thread up about a forum VCDS cable postal service

hey sorry to interrupt, but would AA drivers have a VCDS cable in there vans?
No, not only does the cable only work on the VW Audi range of cars (including the VW produced Bentleys) but it does not really fix anything. So even if they had one and diagnosed the cause of the problem they would still have to take the car to a garage to get the part replaced.

No need to apologise, you post was relevant and welcome.

:D I am not worried about liabilities. I just don't want to mess up anyone's car :D

But as far as I can tell, unless you really go crazy and change things without intending to you are unlikely to be able to do any serious damage.

But I am just a careful type of guy and prefer to be as sure as I can be.

I also worry about enabling things like "hill hold", what would happen if it developed a fault and the Audi dealer states that you didnt pay for it and so it should not be enabled. After all if it is just a setting on VCDS why do they charge so much for it, perhaps it is to covet the cost of repairs under guarrantee etc if it goes wrong? Who knows, surely they are not just profiteering? ;)

I will let you know when I get a gap in my busy schedule and perhaps you could pop over to me ?

Weekends would be best for me.

Staines is not too far from you is it?
