Is Audis new Nano Grey lighter or darker than Dayton Grey

Ive seen a few photographs and messages regarding Nano Grey Metallic, Audis new 2015 colour being discussed here, but has anyone actually seen the colour in the flesh so to speak.

I ve ordered a brand new facelift 1.6TDi Sport for June delivery in the Nano Grey, just because there was a rather nice A4 Avant in the showroom in Daytona Grey.

The salesman said he has never seen a disappointing Audi Grey metallic in the thirty years he had been working for Audi, so on his wise authority i went for the Nano and Silver roofline.

Wise choice, or should i have chosen a different colour like Metallic White or Red.

I haven't seen Nardo in the flesh but many people relate it to aviator grey which was used on the Mk1 TT for a while. Its a bit of a marmite colour, it's often described as looking like primer. Its nothing like Daytona imo which has a lot of fleck in the paint and looks great in the sun, I think Nardo can look a little flat. It looks the dogs on this RS6 though.

My nano grey A1 is due to be delivered this week or next, so I'll upload a pic once I get it.

In the meantime, I believe this one is nano grey (albeit with silver mirrors and spoiler):

To answer your question, I think it's darker (and also more even / matt than the daytona). To be honest, I prefer daytona, but I settled for nano because daytona wasn't an option on the sport model.

That one actually looks like Nimbus Grey which is far darker than Nardo Grey. ;)

The specification says "Kleur Nanogrijs", which is Dutch for " colour nano grey".

It seems to me that there is some confusion here between 'nano' grey (the 2015 a1 colour) and 'nardo' grey (apparently some other colour used on other Audi models, for example the a5 pictured above).

It looks like nano is darker than daytona, but nardo is lighter. Also, both appear flatter / matter than Daytona in my opinion.

Ive just seen my first Nano Grey Audi, a new TT model.
I ordered my new A1 Sport TDI in Nano Grey without seeing the colour beforehand, so glad that i listened to the sales manager, the colour looks amazing, almost like a matt finish but with a metallic coating.
An A1 in this colour with a Silver contrast roofline will certainly look the part, far more exclusive than your everyday White or Red that everyone seems to go for.

I do not think you will see many new A1s in this colour, granted a very light bright colour such as Red or White suit the A1s shape, but like the BMW Mini, everyone seems to have those colours.

Daytona Grey looks really classy, but Nano Grey looks equally classy.

Nano appears to be quite a bit lighter in colour to the distinguished Daytona Grey, but both colours look very nice and suits your typical German built automobile.

That's reassuring - I'm collecting mine on Saturday, and like you, I ordered without seeing nano grey in the flesh too!

I've got a test drive on Sunday and nano grey is my current colour choice, it would be great if you could post a picture when you've collected yours.
Ok, I collected my A1 (Sport, S-tronic, 1.4 TFSI 125PS) yesterday, and am very pleased with the Nano Grey colour.I wouldn't say it's massively different to Daytona in terms of the shade (i.e. how light / dark the grey is), but the finish is quite a lot different - it looks almost like a solid colour form a distance, but when you get close up you can see the metallic. I reckon it'll look particularly good on a sunny day when the light catches it.

Overall I would say that the Daytona looks a bit fancier /more eye-catching, and Nano looks more understated (but still really good). Several members of staff at the dealership actually came over to comment on how good the new colour looks, as it was the first time they'd seen it (on an A1 I mean - it's also available on the new TT apparently).

Anyway, here are a couple of photos. Unfortunately these were just taken with my phone, and it was cloudy and raining so everything looks a bit drab, but hopefully they give you an idea.

Also, in case anyone's interested, here's the new Laser Blue interior (again, not the best photo as it was just taken over my shoulder, but as I said it was raining so I didn't want to take it from outside with the door open!). The blue appears fairly bright on the photo, but it looks a lot more subtle in the flesh as you can see the flecks of black more in the cloth pattern.

Hope this helps!

Thank You for posting your photos of your new car.
Ive also gone for the Blue interior with my car, and it certainly looks eye catching.
I wonder how a silver contrast roofline will look, as a completely Grey car looks a little understated, still very upmarket and Germanic, but now I've seen a Nano Grey Metallic A1 i am really excited in seeing mine.

Many many thanks for the photos, its much appreciated.

No problem at all. Yeah, I think you'll be happy with the blue interior - it looks much better in real life than in photos. I felt like I was taking a bit of a risk ordering this without seeing it first, but I'm now really glad I did as it brightens up the interior nicely and goes well with the grey exterior (at least in my opinion! ;)). Would probably go well with a black, silver or white exterior too.

If you like the idea of a contrast roof, then I think that silver would look good with the Nano Grey, but just bear in mind that it is a bit lighter than it looks on my photos so there won't be as much of a contrast between the grey and silver as you might think (although still definitely enough that it will look good). In fact, I think the grey is light enough that a black contrast roof would look pretty good too.

Actually the car I've ordered has the silver roof line and Design Pack.

In hindsight, a Black roofline might have been the right choice, but i thought such a dark colour against another fairly dark colour would have overpowered the car, hence a lighter colour to bring out the best in a Grey metallic paintwork.

Ive always wanted an A1 ever since i saw the original cars way back in 2010, but I am a serious fuel economy nut, hence the wanting a VW Polo Bluemotion 1.4TDI.

I know i am never likely to get those kind of figures from my A1, but i bet with a little effort i can manage that claimed 80mpg that Audi claim for this new updated 1.6TDI engine of theirs.

The new 1.6 diesel has been tuned further for efficiency, increase in Hp and considerably lower emissions as well, down from 99 to 92CO2, that is quite a significant drop, and with that i certainly expect a slightly better economy figure as well, once the engine has bedded in with 10 to 15000miles on the clock.

I borrowed a relatives older 1.2TDI Bluemotion model and with real effort last July i managed a shade over 85mpg from it, which was pleasing, but it was Volkswagens fault in mucking up production of the technically unique 1.4 TDI engine of the all new 2015 Bluemotion model that made me visit the all new Audi dealership here in North Wales.

I took a fairly quick test-drive in a 12 plate 1.6TDi and was immediately hooked, i just had to have one.

Parked next to the desk in the ridiculously large plush showroom, part of the all new funded by VWÂŁ8-9million complex of Skoda,VW and Audi, was parked a A4 Avant in Daytona Grey.

Since Daytona Grey was not up for grabs it had to be Nano Grey, and the salesman persuaded me to have the silver contrast roof line as well, which in hindsight i am glad i did.

Browsing through the options list on the salesman iPad i saw the Light Blue interior, which like the Nano Grey is an all new colour for 2015, and certainly looks eye catching in your car.

I also added Cruise Control,Climatic A/C, Sat/Nav, Armrest, 17inch 5 V Spoke alloys because they look so attractive on a friends A1 Style Edition, and to finish it off an expensive but worth it Design Pack which includes the full Panoramic sunroof,Privacy glass, LED interior lights and the folding electric mirrors.

Having now seen your Nano Grey chariot, Privacy Glass against the darker than normal paintwork (darker than your normal A1 that is) will look simply mind blowing, as will the dark glass very long panoramic sunroof.

As soon as i get mine, sometime in June (fingers crossed) i will try and post some photographs here on the forum.

Is great to see members going to the effort in sharing their new transport with others, and thank you again for showing off that rather nice choice of paintwork, i recon we have both made the right choice in car and colour.

That nano grey looks extremely smart. I was tempted to go for it, but couldn't bring myself to take a gamble without seeing it in the flesh (I went for Daytona instead).

Even finding an accurate picture online was difficult. For example, I noticed that even Audi dealerships weren't quite clear on what the colour looked like. Take this tweet for instance: - Sinclair Audi showing a TT in what they describe in nano grey but it surely looks like Nardo?

Also, in the A1 brochure - http://www.audi.co.uk/content/dam/audi/production/PDF/PriceAndSpecGuides/a1-s1.pdf - what appears to be a nano grey A1 on the first few pages looks much lighter than the pictures in this thread.
