All,

I have a Citroen DS3 on hire for the week, and have to say its a little "plastic" to say the least. Bloody aweful to be honest.

The car itself, nice engine, pokey :) Boot is cavernous, to say the least!!!

Only just picked it up, so more to follow.

Cheers

Jae

Yeah I test drove a ds3 last year. It's good for a citroen, was quick but it rattled like a toy. I didn't like the quirky interior either.

Overall it's not a competitor to the A1 it's too overpriced

150 was similar price to my A1, yet on finance was ÂŁ50 more a month. This was due to the fact it will drop in value quicker than the A1. Salesman couldn't believe the quote I received from Audi claiming it wasn't possible to sell a car that cheap hehe

Never liked the look of the DS3 - too quirky. It's not serious. It'll go outta fashion and look dated really quickly.
A1's far more sophisticated and timeless in my opinion.

It doesn't surprise me to hear the DS3 is rattly or plasticy. :-/

I think the car will fall apart well before that - if I was on a 3 year finance deal i'd be worried what state it would be handed back in!

LEDS turn OFF if you put the side lights on!!!

Dash is a mess, with 2 dials in white, then a third LED based one in ORANGE!

Its the 150 I believe. There is a bloomin perfume thing next to the middle vents - looks like a ciggie lighter, facing the passenger. Really odd.

Lets not start on the reflections all over the plastic dash elements.

Neat thing about the A1, the indicators on the wing mirrors, which you can see from inside - really missed that.

The indicator "tic tac" is bloody aweful.

The suspension and engine however, a hoot around the lanes!!! Have to say, far more economical too than the 1.4 122ps, which I think needs to be addressed by Audi, sooner rather than later - especially in this day and age of austerity.

I hated the purfume thing, made the car smell of flowers!

Shame the French can't build something decent...
What like a Micra!! ;)

It was the plasticy feel of the ds3 that put me off it when I was looking about.

Be interesting to know the final verdict when you hand it back

Well, DS3 went back to Avis yesterday morning. Have to say, great engine, great suspension, great round the lanes. I got 45mpg out of it (according to the DIS), which I think would have struggled in the A1, and its a 1.6!!!

The car, overall, nah, its just not in the same league, quality wise. Feel safer in the A1 and you know that its not going to date quickly, unlike the DS3 with its quirky looks.

Its a "nice" car, but will be worth bugger all when it comes to resale in 3 years time, as a. its a Citroen, b. its french, c. quirky looks.

AUDI - WAKE UP, GET THE ECONOMY SORTED OUT ON THE 1.4's!!!

If you can afford an Audi you can afford the fuel :p
Is that the general opinion on buying an Audi? I see a lot of young drivers and I'm youngish too driving white Fiesta's Vauxhalls. But in my own view, you pay the extra price for an Audi but it feels and looks 10 times better and gets a different sort of look of approval than the common cars that are constantly out there. Got loads of thumbs up around central London last week!

I dropped into a Citroen garage before as this is supposed to be the great A1 rival. I just though I'd check it out and see how much better the A1 is.

To cut a long story short

"Would sir like to take the car for a test drive?"
"No".
"Oh!".

Its not very nice close up then? Ive only seen them from a distance.

No, they're just a bit too much. I like the elegance of the Audi cabin, how it's designed and laid out.

What struck me about the DS3 is just how much it screams "Look at me!". It's almost like they've tried to design a spaceship. Personally, I think they've really overdone it on the chrome on the interior. Too many contrasting colours on the dash when lit.

Other people have said it here but it doesn't feel sturdy. Citroen still seem to have massive reliability issues as well but it comes with 3 years manufacturers warranty etc.

What it does have is everything and the kitchen sink in there. I was in a limited edition model which cost about 15K. It had the lot in there. Probably as much as a fully loaded A1.

Maybe it's me but it seems to be aimed at a much younger market and not someone in his early forties.

The salesman and the blurb state 74-78 mpg for the diesel and about 50 for the petrol.

I see a lot of SOM DS3's and yes it seems aimed at the youngsters.

What are resale values like on those?

Saw a DS3 today and was shocked at how gordy the exterior was. You're going to get noticed for all the wrong reasons in one of those.

And to re-quote my French ex girlfriend: "Don't buy anything from Citroen, they are shit and will always let you down"
