TFSI engine have always been very load/tappy on idle that's just the nature of their design. It's hard to tell from the video whether it sounds normal or not but if I had any suspicions I would take it in and get it looked at asap.

Paul,
See my post on my own car " A1 1.2TFSI Engine noise...welcome your thoughts "....do not accept that this is normal, and the engines are tappety by design....absolute tosh. This is a fault that needs rectifying. I agree with Graham, DayDotz and Weesley.
It isn't absolute tosh actually. Do your research before being so aggressive and disrespectful with your replies. TFSI engines are different to most petrol engines because they are fuel stratified injection which basically means that the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder instead of the inlet manifold very much like a diesel engine. Because of this, the fuel is injected at high pressure which gives the TFSI engines their unique ticking sound on idle.

One way to test would be to take the car for a thrashing, get the oil temperature up and the ticking noise should diminish as the engine will have switched into Stoichiometric mode instead of lean burn mode.

However, having listened to a large amount of TFSI engines you should definitely be able to tell one that is knocking/ticking excessively which could be caused by a multitude of different reasons and I would always advise someone that has their suspicions about excessive ticking/knocking noises to get it checked out immediately by an Audi authorised repairer. Excessive knockin/ticking could be caused by tensioner / chain or something more serious.

I'm not sure that taking a car with an unknown engine problem for a 'thrashing' is advisable.

I've called the dealer (again) and have asked that they either authorise a garage local to me to investigate, or I'm more than happy to drive the car from Chester where I live to Wolverhampton where the dealer is IF... I have a written guarantee from them that they are responsible for any issues arising from the journey.

I'm waiting for their answer....
When I say thrash I mean getting the car up to temperature as it will switch into Stoichiometric mode under moderate load however it sounds that you may have more of an underlying problem than it just being a typical TFSI engine so I would definitely not drive it as it may cause more damage. If you have to push it out onto the road and phone Audi roadside assistance to get it recovered to a garage.
