Hi

Was looking to update my SD card with the latest maps for the SD system in my A1 and fell off my chair when quoted stupid amounts of money by the dealer. A colleague has a VW and told me his updates are free are available as a download from the official VW site onto a SD card. So that got me thinking; would the VW maps work with the Audi SD sat nav system, or are they completely different? If so, I'll wait until the 2017 maps are on offer at that well known auction site or a specialist sat nav site.

Probably not, mainly because the systems used in the Vws are quite a bit different to that used by Audi.
Its really annoying, because before i bought my A1, i had a brand new Polo 1.4Tdi Bluemotion on order, and the built in Sat/Nav used by Volkswagen was magnificent.

When i ordered my A1, foolishly i activated the Sat/Nav sd card, thinking it would be on par with what Volkswagen had on offer, how wrong i was.

I can quietly imagine what Audi want to update the lousy sd card system, and when they quoted £186 just to change the oil in the engine of my car, with me providing the oil and filter, less than 20minutes work, they know they can hold you to randsome.

Audi hold the tightly controlled copyright to their TomTom based sd card system, and if you want it updated, you have to play by their terms.

It may not be the built in sd card system, but at least you will have a sat/nav that will not cost a fortune to update.

I would pop into Halfords, and buy an affordable TomTom or Garmin, and then you will have a decent system in your car.
