The Audi RS1 is coming. These are the first pictures of the fastest and most powerful A1 yet, which our spies have caught testing at the Nurburgring in Germany.

Details are scarce, but the RS1 is expected to have a 2.0-litre turbocharged TFSI engine with around 280bhp, quattro four-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox.

It will sit above the S1 quattro, which is expected to have a 225bhp 1.6-litre TFSI engine.

With that sort of power on tap, the RS1 should do 0-60mph in five seconds and a have a top speed of 150mph. In addition to the extra performance, it will also have a more aggressive look, with flared wheelarches to cover the wider front and rear tracks, plus an aggressive bodykit with a bold front splitter featuring huge air intakes, and a sporty rear roof spoiler.

Lowered and stiffened suspension, uprated brakes and a cabin with sports seats will also feature. The RS1 is expected to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year, with a price tag approaching £30,000.

Only 280hp, the A1 MTM Nardo Edition boasts over 500hp from the RS3 5 cylinder 2.5L engine, that fits very snuggly under the A1s bonnet.

Granted the Nardo Edition is a limited run MTM hypercar, but Audi should really push the boat out, and provide customers with a much more powerful setup.

Make it a limited edition run, like the A1 Quattro, and ask a silly price.

The car will sell out before its release, and become an instant classic.

280hp is a lot of power under the bonnet of an A1, but its been proven that the Polos chassi can handle considerably more.

Come on Audi, be brave enough to produce a car on the lines of the Nardo Edition, for well heeled customers.
