Hi all

Tried emailing Jae and also posting a thread in the usual way but so far I/we have been ignored. So hence a flame room post. No bad language in this just the fact that I'm fed up of reading posts about GAP, Stereo upgrades, Colour and mirrors as well as New members saying Hi etc. All I want is a Tech section I can go to and look up issues I'm having or can comment on. I can still see the Ads that pay for the site etc but want to cut out the dross. I'm not anti-social just got over the honeymoon period and want facts not fluff. Someone also suggested a commonly asked questions section and that would also cut down on the reapeted threads.
My thread on a tech section only got positive responces so can someone out there in Admin land make this happen. I know this is not as easy a waving a magic wand but people will not use the Forum if it's to difficult to see things of interest to them and wading through 100's of posts is no fun. A great job has been done so far with the Forum it just needs to mature a little.

Jrh,

Checked my email, have nothing, hence no answer!!

I'll look at your request, along with the forthcoming changes to the structure of the forums ;)

Lost in the world wide web no doubt. Thanks anyway. not a winge at you just a suggestion. It is your baby after all but after nearly a year, peoples repetitiveness wears thin.

Whilst I agree that in can be a little more inconvenient wading through repeat questions such as Gap...but that's life. You don't have to read that particular thread.
As a newbie I posted plenty of 'repeat' questions, and most people answered, most members were awesome and beyond helpful, despite them being repeat questions. Some referred me the search facility, also great. I didn't know such a thing existed. (I am using an iPhone so perhaps my ability to use the forum properly is hindered somewhat...but I digress). Anyway it's simple, don't like the more sociable threads which don't fix your technical 'needs'? Then don't read them. Elementary really.
And you're tired of new members being sociable by saying hi, yet want to make the point that you aren't being unsociable? Hmm is all I'll say to that.
New people buy A1s all the time and come here, just because you've seen it all before doesn't mean their experience should be any less than what you experienced, just because you've seen it all before. You seem reasonable, and I've tried to be too, but there were a lot of older, cynical forum members on the TT forum who just sniped at younger members, don't become like this.

Ultimately your point is one about a separate Tech section, I get that. Just lay off the newbies :)

And what would you say if I wanted to read "What other cars did you consider when buying your A1" ;)

There are as always two sides to any opinion held. Yes it is tedious to read the same thing posted again and again, yes it is frustrating to see people posting without doing even a simple search, and even more frustrating when they ask a question that has already been answered further up the same thread.

But also like any conversation the fluid nature of what is discussed including some digressions, is what keeps the forum alive, if every answer was available, and everybody searched for the answer the forum would stagnate and ultimately become a solely a point of reference not a vibrant and evolving exchange of ideas.

Find the balance between the two is the holy grail of any forum, and not one that has been found yet.

I agree 100%... And yes the forum could do with more sections. Tech/Repairs/Audio and Video/Dealers/Wheels and Tyres/Modifications/Social Meets/Interior/Exterior/Tuning/Diagnostics/Facts and Tips/Detailing are a few i can think of. :)

I also agree to most... And the "What other cars did you consider when buying your A1" topic is the best read on this forum!

Whoooops...I have that. Although I didn't actually derail that thread! However I didn't stick to the topic of the thread and have been guilty of digressing on more than the odd occasion. So I'll apologise for that and resolve to Stick to topic where possible...
But a little of my point has been missed though, the forum can be a social hub for A1 owners too. I don't think that should be taken away otherwise you lose the point of being a 'forum'...so to this end I competely stand by my assertion that it isn't wrong for a new member to even say hi. I think ultimately, this is what I take umbrage to.
Anyway triplefan, we are in danger of being hypocrites by going off-topic, so I have nothing more to say on this. (if you want to make a point to me personally then could you PM me, I want to keep this on topic from now on).

I started this thread as I was passed the colour, trim , folding flippin mirrors stage and just wanted an area where I could easily get facts of a technical nature. Like in life, sometime I want to socialise and sometimes I want to get to the nitty gritty. Is it to much to ask and I think both can exist side by side without loosing anythng. Other Forums do it and I think so should this one. Jae has indicated he may do this but I am getting tired of same things as it's like Groundhog day. It's intersting that most of the people who were here from the start seem to have drifted away with just a few of the hardcore original memebers hanging on and you have to ask yourself why. For the forum to be voted best Audi resource it needs to evolve and a present it is static. I hang on using it as I just hope for those nuggets of gold that make my Audi experience better but like the A1 owners club this site is going nowhere. REMEMBER THIS IS THE FLAME ROOM and this is my opinion.

As for a A1 dating section " A1 Sport TDi seeks older S-Line for good times and trips in the country, needs a full service " . It may work. OFF thread and I dont care as it's my thread.

And there was me going to set you up with some hot A1 Chick! I see where you are coming from, there needs to be more sections in the forum for different things, i agree. Although i don't think we should act like we are going to an important interview on here. The A2 forum, as you may know has lots of great info, but made you feel like you were being watched by the headmaster! Not a fun place to be and too stuck up imo. Yes, we can all have our own opinions and we all have different personalities, but no way am i going to stop with my little bit of humour and i am sure others feel the same.

The A1 was built to be a 'FUN' Audi... So we should carry that on imo.

Bravo bravo....

I had wrote a rant but decide to delete as its derogatary too myself.

I havent seen too many people moaning, ive only been a member for a few months but the last month it seems to be picking up. And from the whos whos topic you see how vast the range of people are...i think its great because I wouldnt normally talk to these people otherwise, wereas from what ive seen on other audi forums (briefly) thats its one dimensional and boring. The fact that a topic can grow in too another subject is great as it shows how responsive this forum is.

Some forums actively prohibit persecution of newbies making repeat posts

Well I dont see what the big deal is over repeat questions? Over time the answers to many of these questions will change and be updated, which means it will only lead to a repost anyway?

I agree Bartlett.
What do we do once every question has been answered? Stop posting?

One thing that does annoy me is idiots posting replies to new questions from newbies like 'Use the search box'

Just my (slightly tipsy) tuppence-worth...

The one thing I really like about this forum is the welcome that is offered to newbies, whether it's new to the A1, to Audi or even to new cars.

Questions may very well be repeated but what you have to remember is, we were all learners once. That's not to say that an FAQ sticky or a little re-organisation would be a bad thing.

All in all, I like my new Audi friends. Even, on occasion, Mojito and Bartlett :p

(ETA This is not a drunken 'I love you guys' post. Just an expression of mild affection)

I spat my dummy out a few weeks back and decided not to post,i was sick of reading threads which had been started off in good faith for whatever topic just to become pages and pages of people talking babble.
Like stated above yes theres going to be a few posts slightly going wayside but things just get too far out of hand/off topic..
My answer would be better moderation..hit the delete button more in the forum, keep flirting and non relevant posts elsewere..

When i first found this forum i was on it all the time and read through every new post, now i just have a quick look at any topics that take my interest,..

Not alot i/we can do,its down to the admin and mods to decide what type of forum they want to run..

Dont get me wrong im not a killjoy,i like a joke and a laugh. but i dont always have the time and patience to read alot of the irelevant things that are posted at times..

Better Moderation please...
