Aside from which replacement LED bulb to use, the second most debated topic is the sound system, maybe we can get a clear consensus of opinion, one vote each but you can change your mind.

Please post why you rate your choice and whether you made your choice based on comparing the other options.

I went with the standard system, sure the ASS and Bose both sound better, but the improvement is not as apparent when moving, plus most of the time SWMBO is a passenger, so the volume is at lower levels

I've had loan cars with the other choices and do not feel like I'm missing out on anything, however i do have an Alpine SWE 1000 kicking about which I may fit behind the trim panel on the passenger side in the boot

I have the standard - and have no regrets.

I have listened to both the bose and ASS upgrades, and for me neither were worth the extra premium. I never sit in the car just listening to music/hanging out, so im moving or sat in traffic 90% of the time..and for that I don't need an amazing audio system..plus even if I did, the bose/ass upgrades don't even offer that, as they are still limited by the speakers.

The standard system sounds great for the music I listen to (metal/rock mostly), as long as I use a good quality source..I guess If i were a DNB or RNB fan it would be a different question due to the bass range, but i'm not, so i'm happy :D

Now there's an interesting thought, that's exactly what I listen to, maybe it has as much to do with what you play through it

im a huge fan of bose, i cant recommend the companion series speakers for home entertainment any more... i had bose in my a6 and it was great, but that was a £35,000 car and the bose was a £500 upgrade, i'm sorry but £700 is a joke for bose in a £19,000 car especially when the standard system is great...

i think there are quite a lot of haters out there who have bought the bose and are trying to justify there purchase... like the chap above who describes the standard system as crap... my friend you need to get your ears tested

I went for the audi sound system upgrade and am very pleased with it for the price I could not justify the Bose price as I had a budget for the car so I wanted for keep around £21000 for car so I like music and felt a slight upgrade would be sufficient, so I could add the other extras I wanted, so I worked it in with my budget. I had Bose in previous a3 and it was great. But I'm happy to say for the price the audi sound system is good value.

I can't vote on my phone but not sure what to vote for anyway having only heard the standard and saying that's crap is being nice.

If it was my money I'd go for the Bose as music in the car is very important to me.

My Friend I do not need to get my ears tested. As I said IMHO I know the Bose is much better than the STD audi offering. My HI FI at home bears testament to my wants when listening to my music and the std audi anit it. It does not even cut it. Now anybody who thinks different is tone deaf. I defy you to convince me that the std stereo is even in the same league. Now I can understand people not choosing the Bose because to them music in the car is not so important. I had B&O in my £40K A5 which was the dogs dangglers and so much better then Bose. I think I know what I am talking about when it comes to music reproduction on the go.

you've completely missed my point and gone off on one... not once did i say that the standard stereo is in the same league as the bose, HOWEVER... we are not talking about 40k executive saloon/coupes, we're talking about 13k+ superminis, so for you to turn around and say the standard is crap, i think you need to wake up and smell the coffee... have you ever been in a polo/mito/ds3 to compare stereo's? your trying to compare a 13k supermini to a 40k a5... get real

It's irrelevant what you compare it to, the standard stereo in the A1 IS crap. It doesn't make it better just because a fiesta's is worse.

I am with you on this one. I love my music and the cost of the Bose was justified to my ears but as they say, One mans meat is another mans poison, and each to their own.

what a stupid comment to make... so you expect a 13k car to have some sort of wonder stereo???????????

listen guys i have better things to do with my life than to argue over this with you lot... let me just put an end to it,

audi are not miracle workers, if they produce a 13k car they will put a stereo which is adequate for a 13k car in it, actually compared to other 13k cars the a1 stereo wins hands down and you would know this if you bothered to listen to the other stereos... If your used to higher priced cars, such as a 40k a5, then of course it will have a better stereo fitted hence why the option of bose is there for people who want it, which is fantastic but personally i would prefer to choose a sat nav over bose... as the chap above said, each to their own, so we'll leave it at that...

but please dont go around calling it crap, thats like me turning around and stating that your a1's performance is crap because it would get shit on by my old a6, oh whats that... not a fair comparison? my point exactly, its not a crap stereo for the money, stop expecting too much from a 13k car... end of the day no one wants their pride and joy to be called crap.

You don't get it, perhaps the A1's stereo is good compared to other crap cars and maybe it's good for a 13k car (although I don't think anyone actually paid 13, mine was 18!) however being better than something incredibly shocking doesn't make it good. It is still crap. I'm not calling the car crap, it's far from it, that's why I have one, merely the stereo. And it's most definitely not adequate, the audi upgraded system should've been standard in my opinion, or at least standard on the sport model.

If you have to say "audi are not miracle workers, if they produce a 13k car they will put a stereo which is adequate for a 13k car in it" then that just proves how terrible it is.

Oh and just to add I have listened to other stereo's, many many many, and this one's crap!

If I was the only person stating this then maybe I'd accept that I'm being too picky, but I'm not.

ok well in that case... the performance of the a1 is crap... doesnt matter if it is faster than other cars in this price range, it is still crap... the standard equipment is crap, why is there no tv as standard? doesnt matter if other cars this price point dont have a tv, it is still crap it doesn't. sound familiar? stop expecting way beyond what a 13k car has to offer

oh and plenty of people only spent 13k on there a1, maybe not on this forum but im yet to see a single s-line in the 11,000 miles ive done since november, however i have seen about 30 se's and around 2 sports, so the statement that nobody actually buys the car for 13k IS CRAP

I'm sorry but again you're missing the point, I'm not disputing that the stereo might well be good for a car in this price range, I'm merely stating that in general, as a stereo, something that's job is to play good sounding music, it's not doing a very good job! In the same instance the performance is crap! You wouldn't ever say wow those a1's are really fast, would you? No because they're not. You might say that it's faster than a fiesta, but you'd never say it was a fast car. Just as you might say, the stereo is better than the fiesta's, but you wouldn't say it's good. (well you might )

Saying the stereo is good and saying that it's good for what it is are two completely different things.

And as far as equipment goes I'd say that the car is very well equipped, especially in sport guise, it has more kit on it than my 30k TT had!

Let's just agree to disagree shall we, if you're happy with your stereo and you think that it sounds good then you enjoy it and be happy. :)

I have a 3 year old A4 SE which had the loyalty (an extra provided to existing Audi customers at that time for free) B&O system fitted. I am thinking of downsizing and was shocked at just how poor the standard system sounded in comparison.

With regards to the Audi being a £13k car, the car is currently unobtainable at that price. My local dealer states there is a six month waiting list on SEs and wasn't interested at all in selling one. Therefore most current buyers will be looking at an £18 or £19k car with a modicum of extras. Surely a supermini at this price should have a premium sound system?

Regards

Glad you two sorted your Audiophile differences out! I'm well happy with my aftermarket Amstrad car boot upgrade! Haha... But seriously, every one has different opinions and one option could be more important than another to someone else.

I think the A1 standard system is, OK... High frequencies are not very good at low volume imo, maybe its the angle of the tweeters?

Personally, i would rather have Bose than SatNav as i am more into my music and want the best factory system possible, even though i think Bose are over-rated... I dont want to start pulling panels off and going all chavvy on my A1... I lije to keep my cars pretty much standard (Apart from a re-map) :D

I have SatNav on my iPhone, so it is not really important to have a factory SatNav fitted.

Go enjoy your cars and dont worry about whats the best option, choose the best options that you would make good use off!
