Just posting this up for all those who keep asking about adding a video input to A1's without the Connectivity Pack.

I will find out a price of the parts from my dealer, unless someone here has access to Audi's sales prices?

Info as posted for me by ABN1C in a previous post:

1 - 8X2 971 656 (adapter cable loom connection for extrernal audio sources, front 1300mm)
2 - 4F0 035 909 (trim for connection of audio sources, dash panel box)
3 - 8X0 035 447 A (flat contact housing with contact locking mechanism, 12 pin green)
4 - 4F0051510R Red iPod/iPhone cable for Audio/Video

Now, i am not sure if it will work with the standard headunit, but i am going to give it a go. You should be able to watch films from your iPod/iPhone etc on the MMI display along with Audio through the Audi sound system. Someone else has mentioned that iPhone Apps such as SatNav's can be seen on the MMI screen too!

Also video in motion can be activated through VCDS to combine with this.

I am going to need a step by step guide for this :) are you saying that if you just have the standard stereo like me you can use the MMI as a display? Sorry if I'm being stupid haha

Yes!!!
But, it may not work! It's a case of buying the parts and giving it a go!

Ok, the bad news is that the total cost is alot... Especially for a few cables :(

The loom cable that goes from the rear of the headunit to the glovebox is £161  The other parts are very reasonable though!

I will try and source the loom from a third party supplier.

1 - 8X2 971 656 (adapter cable loom connection for extrernal audio sources, front 1300mm) - £161.00
2 - 4F0 035 909 (trim for connection of audio sources, dash panel box) - £3.38
3 - 8X0 035 447 A (flat contact housing with contact locking mechanism, 12 pin green) - £1.22
4 - 4F0051510R Red iPod/iPhone cable for Audio/Video - £35.00

Total = £200.60

The below picture shows what the £161 loom looks like (On the left) and the iPod/iPhone cable on the right.

I dont think thats a massive cost and it would give some pretty good benefits being able to charge and contol the Ipod from the MFSW. Are you going to risk it and give it a go?

Depending on feedback from people with iPhones and what video sources can be played... I have just emailed another company who can supply the loom maybe cheaper!

€110 plus €12 delivered. So about £60 cheaper but not an official cable i think.
