Hi, The electric window master switch on my wife's 2019 A1 has gone faulty and none of the windows will operate via the unit. The switches themselves have gone 'limp', so i believe it to be mechanical failure rather than electrical. I called Audi and they want £168 just to look at it and advise what the issue may be. The car is just out of warranty (4 months) and they said that they may be able to contact Audi to see if they will shoulder some of the expense however, i'm not holding out much hope. The cost of the part is £60 plus the labor, so this plus the diagnostic fee would probably be in the region of about £300. I've looked online and the master switch appears to be similar across the VAG range and you can pick them up for as little as £15. Therefore, i'm wondering if i should get an OEM unit and have a go myself. The problem is, i have little experience with car maintenance so wouldn't know how to remove the door card without potentially causing more issues.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Scott

If you are concerned at the nature of the task, have you thought of asking an auto electrician or even a local bodyshop if they may help you out?

Hi - Given that its just replacing a faulty switch, id rather do it myself than pay such high garage prices, the issue is, i dont know how to remove the door card without potentially damaging it, this is what i would like some instructions on, where the torx screws and clips are located etc.

Normally I'd suggest videos on YouTube as a starting point, but whilst there are a few for the first-shape A1, there doesn't appear to be anything for the current version. You could try visiting your local dealer's parts counter and see if they will let you look at the spares diagrams, which should show where the various fixings are, alternatively you can have a go yourself and see how far you get. If going this route, I'd recommend buying a few "proper" trim removal tools first

Thanks - I did call my local Audi garage and was promptly told that such instructions are only available to their technicians....I have since been on ebay and purchased an OEM master switch (£15) and some trim removal tools, wish me luck :)

I certainly do wish you luck; I've taken a few door cards off in my time. Not sure if it's easier or more difficult these days because I used to have to contend with taking window-winder handles off and finding hidden spring-clips that retained them.....
