Hi all not been here for a while, hope everyone is well.
I own the above and have started to become aware of a slight judder when auto changing between 1st and 2nd.
It has always since I have owned it done this but on a recent service a mechanic advised me to get it looked at.
It seems to change to 2nd gear as soon as the wheels start to turn so if your on a corner or incline putting on the power straight away 2nd gear is to high and it judders till it picks up a little speed. This is more noticeable when the missus drives as she drives alot easier on the accelerator.
It also has a pinking noise when accelerating up hill or changing down under load.
It drives ok in m or s or when using premium fuel, things have got worse since fuel octanes changed.
It's not showing any codes but I know it's not running right and pinking isn't good and is only a timing issue.
Is it possible to adjust the timing and the clutch adaptations or gear change sequence timing.
Also has anybody had the same problems as above since they changed the octanes on fuel on the A1 1.4 TFSI 7 speed S Tronic model?
Thanks for any help
Take care

Very hard to tell from what you have said. The first stage would be to get a diagnostic check run to see what fault codes, if any, have been logged. May be worth looking around to see if you can find a DSG/S-tronic gearbox specialist in your area since it would appear to be a gearbox (control software) issue rather than engine, but without diagnostics it is almost impossible to say.

Thanks for the reply and advice pal.
The last scan that was done was for the squib wire which had snapped and was replaced, after that all was clear.
I have seen a video on YouTube showing a test being done that shows each component in the gearbox being tested through a plug in diagnosis.
Can this be done on the 7 speed Stronic box.
Also how can I tell if the box is a sealed or requires oil/filter change.
Thanks again.

Sorry but I have no direct experience of the VW/Audi DSG auto box; I'm trying to "parallel" this with the Renault EDC twin clutch gearbox in the Captur that my wife mainly drives. It's a similar concept and I have found out from the nearest main dealer that it is a wet box supposedly sealed for life but I simply don't trust that ! I believe that the oil will degrade over time and that a change of oil after a few years is a good idea. Similarly although we have (fingers crossed) not had any issues with ours after almost 8 years and nearly 50k miles and it still changes gear the most smooth of any auto I have driven, others have had issues (Captur forum will relate some sorry tales), some dealers are better than others and if you can find a local specialist, they can be worth their weight in gold especially when trying to fix unusual and uncommon problems. Early changing from 1st to 2nd is a bit of a worry; it may be a simple fix or it may be something hard to trace.
Where abouts in the UK are you? First part of postcode? and that may prompt others to offer info on somewhere suitable to investigate, although having joined this forum fairly recently, it doesn't seem very active !

EDIT:
have a look here:
Seems that the A1 box is supposedly "dry" whereas other S-tronics are wet

EDIT: Also have a look here:

Thanks again,that's a big help.
I'm with you on the oil degrading, I'm at 73K now and no one had ever touched the gearbox on a service.
I am in the SK16 area of Manchester but can travel if anyone can offer any help.

Looks like you have a few choices, Audi Doctor in Stockport seems to be popular (SK1 3LR);
Drury Lane in Oldham is a bit far off.

A google search will no doubt throw up a few more possible companies who may be able to advise and help you

Quick update for anyone interested.
A few days after I posted this the display started to show a flashing gear symbol with an exclamation mark in it and it was leaking oil.
I was advised to take it in asap which I did.
Turns out the mechatronics box needed replacing as some casing was cracked.
Had it reconditioned with a 12K warranty.
Only got it back today so not had chance to drive it properly yet but missus says it's alot better??
I'll see how it goes, hoping all is well.

A cracked casing is bad news, so good job that you got it sorted before it suffered a catastrophic failure

Yeah true IvorE
The original problem of juddering is still there so must not be related to the mechatronics box
I was talking to another mechanic who went for a drive in it and he said the juddering is definitely the k2 clutch on its way out.
But the bloke who did the mech box said this is not true as I would be experiencing problems with 4 and 6 gears
I'm 1K lighter and no further on.
