New Focus ST

Magazine reviews rate this car as excellent 5/5. I had a 30 min test drive the other day taking in a mix of roads and speeds. All I can say is that the experience left me 'underwhelmed'. The A1 felt so much fun afterwards and proves what a great package the 2.0tdi is :D

Have to agree with ROO, went for a test drive few weeks ago with my mate who is looking to replace his (old shape) VXR. It seems to have lost a lot of its character compared to the old 5 cylinder version. Also it looks decidedly ordinary especially as a 5 door. The dashboard is a joke also - I could not live with that. So many diddly buttons and some odd Sony radio.

Im surprised it's winning all the group magazine tests especially up against the Megane Renaultsport as IMHO that was much better when I treat drove one last year . However i think the success of the Focus will be short lived - I suspect the mk7 Golf GTI will completely blow it away. 8-)
A1 185 Black Edition (sadly gone - not forgotten)

Really? And there was me thinking my 2.0tdi was a bit 'placid'

Is the ST really that bad? I used to be a Ford fan back in the 80's/90's... Think Sierra Cosworth's, Escort RS Turbo's etc lol

I've been there myself, Fiesta and escort RS Turbo's, Mk2 ST with Dreamscience, Mk1 RS. New ST lacks that old ford 'magic' and 'soul'. There are actually people out there with Mk2 RS's swooping them for the new ST..

Them days are sadly gone.......

Those days will never be back
Up until then mid 80s we had pretty crap cars nothing much had a turbo
The cosworth was putting out just over 200 bhp which back in the day seemed mental
Which was nearly double of most other type of gti stuff on the road

Had a few RS's back then and a 280bhp Fiesta RS Turbo that used to eat gearboxes for breakfast. Yes, looks like they lost the plot once the Cosworth era ended in the 90's.

One of my first cars i owned was a Escort RS Turbo replica 1.1 POP, i remember being overtaken by a modified Sapphire Cosworth with flames coming out the exhaust!
