HOW TO - VCDS Coding

Hello guys, I am trying to do some changes to my car via VCDS and I am having a little trouble. Firstly, I would like to enable Hill Assist but on my facelift model 2017, I cant find any place to change the long coding in order for the hill assist to work.

After that, I have obtained a set of rear LED headlights as well as a xenon headlight set. Although I have found some parts in the central electronics long coding regarding the Xenons, but I am not sure if these are the only changes that have to be done. Has anybody performed those tasks? It would be extremely helpful.

P.S. : I have all the needed information on how to wire the headlights, front and rear, all I am concerned with is the coding.

No one has worked out how to enabled hill hold on any 2013+ A1’s

The coding for lights I would you would be best finding someone with xenon/LED and looking at their coding to work out what you need to change. The bytes for lights are not full labelled so you won’t be able to do it just looking at the VCDS tick box/drop downs.

So what I am actually looking for is someone to provide me with an auto-scan from his 2017 A1 equipped with xenons and rear LEDs. Would an S1 2017 coding be the same as I can find one?

Yes any S1 should have the coding you want as they are all facelift and have xenon/led

So this is the coding of my car for this module:

   Component: G397_RLFS  H06 0004
   Serial number: 62818858
   Coding: 02005D

And this is the coding of the S1:

Code: Select all
Address 09: Cent. Elect. (J519)       Labels: 8X0-907-063.clb
   Part No SW: 8X0 907 063 AF    HW: 8X0 907 063 AF

   Component: G397_RLFS  H06 0004
   Serial number: 62447510
   Coding: 02005D

How do I know what do I have to change. Is it a trial and error thing? Or do I look in the long coding helper and have an Idea of what every byte is for?

Look in the long coding helper to see which bytes do what, and that should give you an idea of which ones to copy - you may have to copy only some bits of a byte depending on how the bit masks are used.

So, as an update, I tried yesterday installing the lights. The main beam, works even without changig the car's code, however signals and DRLs don't. Using the S1 coding as a reference I tried changing everything related to the car's lights on the central electronics module with no luck. More specifically on byte 18, there is a dropdown menu that has some options with combinations of xenons and rear leds etc, but it is for the audi Q3. My car had a coding of 29, and I tried 62 which corresponds to the S1, but with no luck. Is there anything code-wise that would need change except from the central electronics module? My final thought is that there is something wrong with the adapter I have ordered that converts the 8 pin to 14 pin plug. I have noticed that there are some pins that go to empty sockets on the headlight, so that may also be a cause. Is there anywhere that I could find a recent schematic of the car?(I have elsawin installed but I think that the audi data are pre-facelift).

So, I did some work today and had some progress.

Looks like the facelift model A1, needs a new adapter for xenons, which I only found being sold by kufatec. Using that adapter, I connected the bi-xenons and got the two main beam cables on the drivers footwell and on pins 48 and 49 of the J519 module.

Now here is the peculiar thing. Signals and main beam work perfect. The coding I changed with reference to the S1 auto-scan, was bit 3 byte 14, and bit 2 byte 17, plus byte 18 to the S1 coding. Main beams didn't work, until I unchecked bit 2 byte 18 ( bi-xenon headlights(with shutter) w/o additional high-beams) (Strange??).

So what is left is the drls. I tried a few codes on byte 18, however LED drls never lit up. Using the S1 coding 63 didnt work for me because I dont have rear LEDs yet and the rear lights were off. So I found out that with coding 61 everything worked ok except from dlrs, so I left it there for now.

I am willing to try any code for byte 18 as long as I am not risking damage to the car. What do you think?
